Is there anything I must do before making an appointment?

Hypnosis for stress, personal empowerment, weight loss, stop smoking, self-esteem, performance improvement, or past life work does not require a referral.

If you are coming for hypnotherapy for a specific diagnosis or for pain, Florida statutes require that I require a written referral from your healthcare provider before we begin our work together.  You may obtain a referral from any of the following practitioners of the healing arts, provided that your objective for hypnotherapy is within his or her scope of practice:  Doctor of Oriental Medicine, surgery, psychiatry, dentistry, osteopathic medicine, chiropractic medicine, naturopathy, podiatric medicine, chiropody, psychology, clinical social work, marriage and family therapy, mental health counseling, or optometry.

How many sessions will I need and how often?

The following are some guidelines but these are not definitive.  I want you to succeed as much as you want to succeed so leave some wiggle room in your planning,

What can I expect from my first session?

Your first session will consist of an in-depth interview that clarifies the behavior you wish to change, confirms that you really wish to change the behavior, and confirms that you are attending the session on your own volition.  Once we determine together that it is appropriate to proceed, we will discuss the number of sessions you are likely to need and take care of payment (while you are still in an alert state!).

The next step is to identify the environmental factors and beliefs that trigger the behavior you wish to change.  This allows me to make appropriate suggestions to your subconscious mind during the hypnosis session to ensure maximum success.  Then you get to take a bathroom break while I put the final touches on the script for your session.

Finally, you enjoy a relaxing, life-changing hypnosis session focusing completely on your success in achieving your desired goal.

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is an altered state of awareness brought about by deep relaxation and focus away from the external world.  In a hypnotic state you have a heightened receptivity to new perspectives and ideas. A hypnotherapist uses this heightened receptivity to help you achieve the lasting changes you desire.   She achieves this by interjecting key information (supplied by you during an in-depth interview) directly to your subconscious mind while you are in the hypnotic state.

How does hypnosis differ from deep guided meditation or psychotherapy?

Both meditation and psychotherapy involve working with the conscious mind.  Because the conscious mind is concerned with maintaining order above all, it views change - even positive change - as a threat to that order it is trying to maintain. Although change does happen with meditation, it can be a slow process due to the resistence of the conscious mind.

Hypnosis, on the other hand, bypasses the conscious mind to allow direct access to the subconscious mind  where our true beliefs and automatic responses are stored. Because the subconscious mind accepts change more readily than the conscious mind, our limiting beliefs and the resulting behavior can be modified faster, easier, and more effectively than through conscious methods.

How can I prepare for my session to maximize my success?
  • Avoid caffeine prior to your session
  • Make sure you are coming on your own volition and not due to pressure from someone else
  • Come with an open mind
Is there anyone for whom hypnosis is not appropriate?
  • I will need to communicate with the physician of anyone with multiple complicated medical problems
  • Those experiencing emotional or mental instability are not appropriate for hypnotherapy
  • Those who have an extreme need to remain in control at all times may have a hard time letting go enough to be hypnotized.

All these factors should come to light during the interview.  If it is not appropriate to continue with the session, we will not proceed and you will not be charged.
